Global communications for better health: Collaborating with other Communities of Practice

“This will be the century of networks, connectivity, and interdependence, and all of these will enable us to overcome the barriers of space and time and to open up heretofore unimaginable possibilities for humanity… a giant step toward ensuring that our knowledge and experience converge into finding new modes of exchanging technical cooperation for sustainable human development”
Dr. Mirta Roses Periago, WHO Regional Director for the Americas, 31 January 2003

HIFA2015 is the flagship initiative of HIFA Global Forums (Health Information For All), a growing ‘network of networks’ including more than 12,000 health professionals, librarians, publishers, policymakers and researchers from over 2500 organisations in 171 countries worldwide. We are especially grateful to the Dgroups Foundation (www.dgroups.info), which supports the platform (developed by WA-Research) that hosts HIFA Global Forums and thousands of other Communities of Practice worldwide.

The shared vision of HIFA Global Forums is a world where every person and every health worker has access to the information and knowledge they need to protect their own health and the health of their fellow citizens.

HIFA Global Forums currently include:
1. HIFA2015
2. CHILD2015
3. HIFA-pt (Portuguese)
4. HIFA-EVIPNet-Fr (French)
5. HIFA-Zambia

Global communications for better health: Collaborating with other Communities of Practice

We believe that working together is better than working in isolation, especially for complex global health challenges such as improving quality of healthcare services in low- and middle-income countries. This applies not only within individual HIFA Global Forums, but also between and among the 5 HIFA Global Forums, and, moreover, with other non-HIFA CoPs:

This map shows how HIFA Global Forums relate to other CoPs worldwide. The map is a “work in progress” and we welcome suggestions for improvement and expansion.

HIFA Global Forums promote cooperation among all CoPs concerned with international health and development. We regularly cross-fertilise with the CoPs shown in the map, and help users to know about the rich and growing diversity of CoPs they can join.
