Baltimore, MD USA – An engaging image and compelling story of a mother and daughter in India won 1st Place/Best of Show in the 2012 Photoshare Photo Contest. Tanzeel Ur Rehman, a photojournalist with Cover Asia Press, submitted the winning photo in Photoshare’s annual competition hosted by the Knowledge for Health (K4Health) Project, based at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Communication Programs (JHU·CCP) with sponsorship from HIFA2015 (Healthcare Information For All by 2015), a global campaign administered by the Global Healthcare Information Network.
The winning image taken in Rajasthan, India, documents a family confronting child bride traditions and customs regarding gender roles. Contest submissions will support Photoshare’s growing collection, helping international nonprofits communicate critical health and development issues. By facilitating photo sharing among public health professionals and photographers Photoshare has become a leading source for editorial public health and development photography.
Open to both amateurs and professionals, the contest drew interest from around the globe, including 538 participants who submitted over 2,500 photos captured in 72 countries. This year’s contest featured a quality and depth across a range of topics and regions that contributed to the largest participation rate since its creation. Photoshare continued a successful partnership with HIFA2015 in sponsorship of the Healthcare Providers Category, recognized with the HIFA2015 Photo Award.
