HIFA2015 is delighted to announce that Community Health Workers will be the focus of the HIFA 2010 Challenge. Our goal: By 2015, every Community Health Worker will have access to the information they need to learn, to diagnose, to provide appropriate care and treatment and to save lives.
Community Health Workers are critical for the delivery of frontline healthcare in low-income countries, especially for the poor and disadvantaged. The term Community Health Workers includes ‘Any health worker carrying out functions related to health care delivery; trained in some way in the context of the intervention; and having no formal professional or paraprofessional certificated or degreed tertiary education.’ (Lewin et al 2005). Community Health Workers may be men or women, young or old, literate or illiterate. More information
